Visitors to Tasmania seek so much more than cocktails and selfies; instead drawn by adventure, learning, authentic experience and genuine connection. With this in mind, we have created a new category of hotel, a storytelling hotel, that goes well beyond mere historical interpretation, to become an immersive storytelling experience.

With the experiences we offer, you'll be scripting your own legend.

Storytelling Tours

Our Master Storyteller and his team of full-time Storytellers know things about Tasmania which some thought to be lost in time. These engaging individuals have been hand-picked as scholars of Tasmania's past with a gift for captivating delivery. The 114 Doors Storytelling Tour guides you through the patchwork of stories and artefacts that punctuate our hallways. Our Storytellers then invite you on a tour of the majestic Hobart Waterfront and the dark underbelly of the Wapping district, to meet the colourful characters who have crafted our island spirit. Be warned, these stories are not all triumphs. Some are unexpected, others untold, and some downright dreadful.

For MACq 01 guests, these tours are complimentary ($20.00 for general public). Please call 03 6210 7600 to enquire about tour group rates for more than 10 people.

Cocktails on Waterfront

Gin Masterclass

Every day we offer the opportunity to learn secrets behind our signature blends. Under the guidance of our in-house cocktail master, experiment with Tasmanian botanicals to create your own gin. The stories that unfold thereafter are yours to craft.

Chef's Table Experience

Let Executive Chef Simon Pockran and his team delight you with a five-course menu with matching wines as they weave a narrative on the origin and stories of the producers. Set directly in front of Old Wharf Restaurant’s open kitchen and in the heart of the restaurant, this experience is for all the senses.

Tasmanian E-Bike Adventures

The Half Day Bangor Adventure uses state of the art pedal assisted Electric mountain bikes to explore Bangor, an extraordinary private Tasmanian coastal property. Natural trails through Blue gum and She oak forests allow us to reach the spectacular Cape Frederick Henderick. At the coast, standing atop 150 meter sea cliffs we story travel with the maritime explorers overlooking the 1642 anchorage of Abel Tasman and the shore based whaling grounds of Captain James Kelly. Your adventure concludes with freshly shucked oysters and a glass of sparkling from the nearby Bangor Wine & Oyster Shed.
