What’s the next chapter in your career…?

When Governor David Collins established Hobart’s Hunter Island (now Hunter Street) in 1804, an industrial centre was born creating employment for hundreds. We’ve followed Dave’s lead and have created approximately 120 new jobs on the same site… although these jobs are less about whaling and more about sharing the stories of Tasmania in a setting of informal luxury.

An Exciting Time & Place

Tasmania has become the golden child of Australia’s tourism and hospitality industry with an influx of awards, global media attention and unprecedented visitor numbers. This year, Tasmania’s tourism offering gets even better with the emergence of a brand new and incredibly unique visitor experience on the Hobart Waterfront – a storytelling hotel, MACq 01.

A Unique Workplace

MACq 01 Hotel will immerse guests in the captivating, unique and unbelievable characters and stories that have made Tasmania what it is today. It will do so in a setting of beautifully crafted and informal luxury, with a service-style that is truly empathetic, attentive and caring. This kind of magic requires the right people… and that’s where you come in.

Behind the Stories

Connecting our guests with the stories of Tasmania underlies everything we do. This is reflected in our design, amenities and service style, but most importantly in our team. We seek professionals able to cultivate a connection and tell a story in everything they do – from making beds, to pouring drinks and everthing in between. We also seek individuals who have a story of their own – we can’t wait to hear it.

Career GOLD

MACq 01 Hotel has two exceptional siblings: The Henry Jones Art Hotel and Saffire Freycinet. Together, the three hotels form the Federal Group Tourism Portfolio and we pride ourselves on career progression across this extraordinary little family. Here is the story of Lauren Hodder our Rooms Divison Manager at MACq 01 and Henry Jones.

Lauren’s Federal Group story began at Wrest Point where her casual restaurant job sparked a passion for hospitality and led to an impressive career.

Lauren gained experience in several hotel management roles in Hobart and Melbourne before returning to Federal Group. Lauren worked in various roles at Henry Jones and MACq 01 before being appointed to Rooms Division Manager across the Hunter Street Precinct where she is today.
