Explore your passion for whisky or ignite a new love with expert guidance from an Overeem distiller, exclusively at MACq 01 Hotel. 

This whisky-tasting experience, hosted at Evolve Spirits Bar, invites both connoisseurs and newcomers to delve into, experiment with, and savour some of Tasmania’s finest whisky. 

  • Available each week on Tuesday at 5.30pm, Thursday at 5:30pm and Friday at 4:30pm in Evolve Spirits Bar.
  • For $45 per person, you’ll enjoy a one-hour hosted tasting session with an Overeem distiller.
  • The tasting includes 3 x 15ml pours of Overeem Core Range Single Malt whiskies, plus a special 1 x 15ml tasting of a secret whisky directly from the distillery.

Pioneering whisky maker Casey Overeem, embarked on his ambitious journey in 2007 with a vision to craft a Tasmanian whisky that would proudly rival the best in the world. From long fermentation times to slow distillation and maturation, Casey’s commitment to quality never faltered. Today, Casey’s daughter Jane Overeem and her husband Mark Sawford continue his legacy. Overeem Whisky has since earned widespread recognition as one of Australia’s most respected luxury whiskies.

Overeem Whisky

Overeem was the fourth distillery in Tasmania to open its doors, producing whisky from the finest ingredients that our pristine environment has to offer.

Tasmania has been labelled as the ‘Whisky Isle of Australia’, with over 80 distilleries in operation. The outstanding quality and concentration of whisky producers in our Island State has brought international recognition and is compared to the famed Isle of Islay in the spiritual home of single malt, Scotland.

The MACq 01 Experience

Listen to captivating tales straight from the expert distiller, as you expand your understanding of the intricate whisky-making process and uncover new ways to appreciate this beloved spirit. 

The experience includes a tasting of Overeem’s three core range single malt whiskies, along with a secret work-in-progress whisky direct from the distillery. 

Both guests and visitors to MACq 01 are welcome to join this hosted experience.

 

Enjoy Four Whiskies

Bourbon Cask Matured: Aged in American oak ex-bourbon casks, this expression offers deep layers of complexity due to the cask’s heavy toast and char. Expect notes of coconut and pineapple upfront, with burnt vanilla and citrus, caramelized banana, marshmallows, and toasted oak.

Port Cask Matured: Considered Overeem’s flagship expression, the Port Cask Matured is elegant, refined, and approachable. It boasts flavours of salted caramel, butterscotch, and is the perfect introduction to the Overeem range.

Sherry Cask Matured: Aged in French Oak ex-sherry casks, this whisky offers notes of dark chocolate, chewy toffee and stewed fruits, that are wonderfully balanced with shaved almonds, marzipan, cinnamon and light spices.

The Mystery Whisky: Guests can experience an exclusive sample of a surprise work-in-progress whisky, selected directly from the distillery.
