More than tour guides, our storytellers will give you an authentic insight and connection to Tasmania that is not to be missed.

The five different storytelling tours are complimentary for MACq 01 and The Henry Jones Art Hotel guests and $35 per person for non-hotel guests, which is payable at the MACq 01 reception prior to departure. Gin Tales is $35 per person for hotel and non hotel guests.

Hidden Hobart: The Viewfinder Walking Tour

Discover fascinating fragments of the history of Hobart that even locals would miss.

Starting at MACq 01 Hotel, you will hear the story of Hobart. Starting 43,000 years ago with the Palawa peoples to the start of British settlement. You will then wander from Hunter Street, through the centre of Hobart and onto Salamanca, using retro viewfinders to see today’s views through the eyes of someone who stood in the same places up to 150 years earlier. Full of history, tales and fun, you won’t want to miss this captivating walking tour of Hobart.

Sticky Stones & Secrets - The Jam Factory Walking Tour

For those drawn to intrigue, fascinated by history, or just a little nosy, let our Storytellers guide you through the historic Hunter Street buildings—some of the oldest in Australia. Once Hunter Island, the colony’s starting point, this area evolved into Hobart’s first shipping wharf before descending into a slum.

These walls witnessed one of Australia’s greatest rags-to-riches stories: Henry Jones & Co – IXL Jams. Now home to the luxurious Henry Jones Art Hotel, you’ll be led through spaces both rustic and grand. Don’t miss your chance to uncover the jam factory’s sticky secrets and timeless stories.

On this must-do tour, our storytellers will guide you through MACq 01 Hotel, telling the story of the site’s history, its inception, and the storytelling concept. As you move through the hotel’s stunning corridors, the storyteller will continue to bring to life the rich tapestry of the MACq 01 characters. You will leave entertained and enlightened on how the Tasmanian spirit was forged.

Henry Jones Art Tour

Stroll through the hallways of The Henry Jones Art Hotel with a glass of Tasmanian sparkling wine.

Our curator and guides will help you to appreciate a selection of our 400 plus artworks. Don’t miss the opportunity to view the largest private collection of paintings by John Glover, the father of Australian landscape painting, along with an amazing selection of winning works of the John Glover Art Prize and The Henry Jones Art Prize.

An immersive experience bringing MACq 01 Hotel together with the renowned McHenry Distillery. Our bespoke suite of five gins encapsulates the essence of the 114 Tasmanian characters that feature throughout our hotel walls, each gin inspired by their bold and beguiling personality traits. The curated gins have been thoughtfully considered, with every ingredient choice to match the stories of their
muse.
